Hypnosis can help reprogram your mind and facilitate behavioral change.

How does social anxiety affect your life?

Social phobias cause both physical and emotional symptoms. In social situations, sufferers will not only get nervous or self-conscious; they may also feel nauseous, start to sweat, begin blushing, or develop a dry mouth. These problems can be so severe that you may avoid social situations all together like parties, networking opportunities and dates.

So, what causes this problem?

A Social phobia has a lot to do with your self-esteem - which is rooted in your subconscious mind. When you are put into a social situation, your subconscious takes over, and you go on "autopilot". Your subconscious will tell you things like "you are not good enough", "you are not smart enough", "you are not pretty enough", or "you are not funny enough". Your subconscious may also convince you that everyone in the room is judging your every word and movement - and secretly ridiculing you.

Phobias tend to result from three main life events or experiences. They include trauma, parental impact on childhood, or observing something embarrassing or terrifying. These factors can cover a very wide range of experiences. The root cause of the fear likely stems from a childhood experience. This experience must be reframed so that the subconscious mind understands that the flight response or fear is no longer necessary.

Various triggers can set off your fear, but your reaction in some instances can be delayed so that you react to something else entirely. Often times, clients are surprised to discover what the initial fear inducing event is, because at face value it does not seem to have a direct connection to the fear or awkwardness.  However, there is always a connection even though it may not be obvious initially.

Chances are something in your past is to blame. It is not uncommon for the subconscious mind to blow things out of proportion, so you may not even remember the past event that has led to your current fear! Your social phobia could be a result of an interaction you had many years ago that you found embarrassing. Something as simple as being teased about the way you looked or talked during a formative stage in your childhood

How can you overcome a social phobia?

The only way to eliminate the problem is to change the way your subconscious mind behaves. During a New York Hypnosis social phobia hypnosis session, you can identify the event from your past that has been blown out of proportion. Contrary to what you might think, the subconscious mind does not judge the fear; it is simply attempting to protect you, its host. Once the event is identified, your hypnotist can then reframe the way your subconscious mind perceives that event, allowing the fear and anxiety to be released.

Or, your New York Hypnosis hypnotist may use detailed visualization techniques to help you move beyond your fear. You may be instructed to imagine interacting socially and feeling comfortable while remaining engaged.

Why?

During a New York Hypnosis Institute social anxiety hypnosis session, you can change the way your subconscious mind perceives things. In doing so, you can "train" your subconscious not to be afraid of other people, or what they may think.

Exercises that claim to boost your self-confidence - like daily affirmations or making a list of all your positive qualities - are aimed at your conscious mind. However, they do nothing to address your subconscious, which is where the problem actually lies. Without changing the way your subconscious works, you will never truly overcome your social anxiety.

What happens during social anxiety hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state, that when achieved, allows your hypnotist to access your subconscious mind. When you watch a movie, read a book, or focus on a project at work and lose track of time, you are experiencing hypnosis. Once a client is guided into hypnosis, we at the New York Hypnosis Institute can then give positive suggestions directly to the subconscious mind.

We can work with you to replace the negative thoughts and fears in your subconscious with positive ones. Social anxiety hypnosis can eliminate those self-defeating thoughts right at their source. That way, when you walk into a social situation, your subconscious will reassure you - instead of telling you that everyone is making fun of you.

Is social phobia hypnosis really effective?

Hypnosis has been shown to reduce anxiety and enhance cognitive behavioral therapy. If you really want to overcome your shyness, hypnosis should be a big part of your treatment plan.

During a NY Hypnosis social phobia hypnosis session, you can identify the event from your past that has been blown out of proportion. Your hypnotist can then reframe the way your subconscious mind perceives that event, allowing the fear and anxiety to be released. Essentially your hypnotist will teach your subconscious that those negative experiences from your past have nothing to do with your social interactions today.

A New York Hypnosis Social Phobia session can retrain your mind to:

Eliminate your old fear of social situations

Provide you with the right level of adrenalin and excitement

Allow you to actually enjoy meeting new people and interactions

Utilizing hypnosis, social situations can actually become something you enjoy!

The first session consists of an intake and hypnosis to address the social phobia. The intake portion involves answering any questions the client might have, and discussing the exact nature of the problem. While in hypnosis, the client will receive suggestions that will assist in promoting accelerated change. The client will also receive a recording of a hypnosis session to listen to for reinforcement, which can be downloaded onto a computer or an iPod.

The number of sessions needed, will vary, but on average 1-2 sessions will suffice. We at The NY Hypnosis Institute will support you as needed.
